Thanks to Miami Friends Meeting, you will have the opportunity to expand your experience in Miami pre and post the AVP-USA Conference. The Meetinghouse is located at 1185 Sunset Drive, Coral Gables, FL 33143 (See http://www.miamifriends.org ) Pre-Conference event     Tuesday-Thursday, May 21-23: NOTE- No longer open for registration given full to capacity as of March 27 AVP Advanced Workshop on Discernment. An alternative second-level workshop extending the idea of consensus through to the practice of basing our private and public decisions based on our best sense of what is right and true. From organizers of major Occupy movements to farmers in rural Sumatra to staff of charitable (NGO) organizations, people appreciate the rigor with which this workshop offers a new way of organizing collective work. Facilitators: Nadine Hoover, John Michaelis, Roger Kluck and Margaret Lechner  Post-Conference event Tuesday-Thursday, May 28-30: AVP Advanced Workshop on Community Based Trauma Healing (CBTH).The CBTH workshop is considered a special topic AVP Advanced workshop. It is the version of the workshop as done in Latin America with Friends Peace Teams’ Peacebuilding en las Américas. The first day focuses on creating community and a sense of safety; the second works with memories and loss; and the third with integrating the loss into participants’ ongoing lives. This format follows the pattern cited by Judith Hermann’s work on healing trauma. While the formal prerequisite for the workshop is having completed an AVP Basic workshop, our experience is that having also done an AVP Advanced workshop is good preparation. AVP Facilitators will learn techniques that can help them when participants (or team members) have emotional difficulties during a workshop. Translation in to Spanish may be available. Facilitators: Val Liveoak, Eduardo Diaz, Katherine Smith and one not yet confirmed. Registration Fees. $100.00 per workshop is the recommended donation. Checks should be written to Miami Friends Meeting and clearly designated for the specific AVP Workshop on the memo or "for" line of the check. Enough is expected to cover workshop supplies, food, and full or partial waiver of "fee" to low income participants, formerly incarcerated, or special needs cases. What money is left over will remain in the Meeting's designated AVP fund to support future prison or community workshops.  NOTE: Participants are responsible for making their own housing arrangements for these pre and post conference events. Discernment participants must be in town by Monday, May 20. Limited beds, floor space and back yard camping hospitality is available from local volunteers. Register online or by email to avpmiami@aol.com indicating your intent and contact information as well as any request for hospitality or other consideration.
